As an Event Manager for the Vancouver Canucks and Rogers Arena, Diana Campbell is responsible for all aspects of planning and executing events at Rogers Arena.

In particular, Diana is responsible for all Vancouver Canucks home games as well as other ticketed events such as concerts, skating and other touring shows.

Diana also handles other events that may include film shoots, meetings, press conferences, corporate and special events that take place at Rogers Arena. Diana is the ‘behind the scenes’ manager that takes care of the macro and micro details that ensure events at General Motors Place go off without a hitch.

Diana deals with a variety of employees within the organization, as well as external partners, clients and guests. She is the main point of contact to coordinate the various needs in the building, (such as room set-ups, event staff schedules, and equipment needs), and is responsible for gathering information about the operational details for the event so it can be communicated to each department and all external partners.

Some of the external partners that Diana is constantly communicating with are Transit, the Vancouver Police, Impark, and the Vancouver Fire Department. “This ensures that policies and procedures are adhered to, such as fire regulations, public safety, alcohol management, crowd control, etc., and that the operation of the event runs as smoothly as possible,” explains Diana.

Diana is also responsible for the staffing deployments for each of her events so that the part time event staff (e.g. hosts and housekeepers) are scheduled for the correct date and time and that there are the appropriate number of staff to run a safe event, whether it is a hockey game or a concert.

Diana has been with the Vancouver Canucks organization for 12 years, starting out as an Administrative Assistant to the Director of Event Services. She was then given the opportunity to work as an Event Coordinator, assisting with some smaller meetings, film shoots and other events. Diana was promoted to an Event Manager and is currently in her third hockey season in this role.

An Event Manager position for the Vancouver Canucks and Rogers Arena requires a level-headed person who can deal with tight timelines and will not ‘crack’ under the occasional situations of extreme stress or pressure. You need to be detail orientated and able to multi-task.

“You also need to have a friendly, outgoing personality with a strong customer service focus as everyone I deal with on a daily basis in considered a client,“ says Diana. “I also think it is important to be passionate about any job you do as that will be portrayed in the service that you deliver to your clients.”
